ECREEE and Partners to Host Regional Workshop on Green Hydrogen for ECOWAS Private Sector Actors
Praia, Cabo Verde, September 17, 2024 –
The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), in partnership with the West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL), and with the support of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), is pleased to announce the upcoming Regional Capacity Building Workshop of ECOWAS Private Sector Actors on Green Hydrogen.
The workshop is scheduled to take place from September 19 to 20, 2024, in Lagos, Nigeria.
This landmark event aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of green hydrogen and green ammonia production technologies, while highlighting key industry challenges, opportunities, and the economics and risks associated with the sector.
The workshop is specifically designed to benefit private sector stakeholders in the ECOWAS region who are involved in hydrogen demand sectors.
The main objective of the workshop is to sensitize private sector actors on the significant opportunities presented by green hydrogen, especially in advancing decarbonization efforts across energy-intensive industries.
Participants will gain insights into cutting-edge technologies, their applications, and the market potential of green hydrogen within West Africa.
This is in line with the goal set in the ECOWAS Green Hydrogen Policy and Strategy Framework, developed with the strategic vision of positioning the region as one of the most competitive producers and suppliers of green hydrogen and its derivatives, while addressing the socio-economic growth and sustainable development of all member states.
The target is to achieve a regional production of at least 0.5 million tons of green hydrogen per year by 2030 and at least 10 million tons by 2050.
A broad range of participants is expected to attend, including private sector representatives from key industries such as oil and gas, fertilizers, cement, and steel.
Additionally, the workshop will host members of Green Hydrogen Associations, green hydrogen production companies, and other strategic partners.
This gathering will provide a unique networking opportunity and a chance to share best practices for green hydrogen adoption and scale-up across the ECOWAS region.
