Igbajo United Ladies Crowned Champions Of Osun Women’s Football League
In a thrilling finale, Igbajo United Ladies clinched the maiden edition title, defeating Segun Akeju Babes 1-0. Captain Khadijat Ogundele’s 21st-minute strike proved decisive, handing Segun Akeju Babes their first concession of the league.
Segun Akeju Babes unleashed a ferocious second-half onslaught, spearheaded by Mercy Otuu’s dazzling footwork and Aliat Muritala’s relentless drive.
However, Igbajo United Ladies impassable Goalkeeper Barakat Jimoh thwarted their efforts with a string of spectacular saves, securing a historic championship win for the ‘Kiriji’ Warrioress”.
Igbajo United Ladies made history as the league’s inaugural champions, boasting an impressive unbeaten record and conceding zero goals throughout the tournament.
Robiat ‘Halaand’ Taofeek of Igbajo United Ladies was highest goal scorer with two goals and one assist, edging her teammate Olateju Ariyo to the coveted prize.
Ila Oragun Babes prolific midfielder Iqmat AbdulRasheed was rewarded with the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, while Segun Akeju Babes Goalkeeper Adekemi Adeyeye went home with the best Goalkeeper award.
Osun State Football Association Chairman, Mayor Sola Fanawopo, beamed with pride as he congratulated the teams, sponsors, and the organizing Committee led by Hon. Rawlings Oyebayo on a resounding tournament success.
“I’m thrilled to witness the exceptional display of skill and sportsmanship throughout this maiden edition,” Mayor Fanawopo said.
“Today, we celebrate not only Igbajo United Ladies’ championship win but also the collective achievement of all participating teams.”
Looking ahead, Mayor Fanawopo revealed exciting plans for the future:
“Starting from the next edition, the Osun State Football Association will register teams directly into the Nigeria Women’s Football League Championship. This significant step will elevate the competition, providing our talented players with a national platform to showcase their abilities.”
