Growing Insecurity; CUPP Urges Nigerians To Reject APC In 2027
THE main opposition Coalition in the country, the Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, has come down heavily on the Federal Government over what it terms “gross incompetence in managing the country’s security exigencies”.
This is coming in the aftermath of the killing of about 40 farmers in Borno state by the terrorist group Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, on Sunday January 12th.
In a Press Release in Abuja signed by the opposition Coalition’s Spokesperson, Comrade Mark Adebayo, CUPP says “The brutal murder of 40 farmers in Borno state is one tragedy too many for our dear country, Nigeria. It is a known fact that this wasn’t an isolated tragedy against innocent Nigerians going about their lawful businesses but who became collateral victims of government’s incompetence in securing the lives and properties of Nigerians.
“Of recent, the ferocious attacks by various terrorist groups have escalated due, fundamentallly, to thegross incompetence in managing the country’s security exigencies by the ruling APC.
“The insecurity in the country has exponentially exacerbated in the last three months. From Benue state to Kogi, to Kaduna, Sokoto, Katsina, Taraba, Plateau, Borno, and Yobe states, estimated five thousand Nigerians have been murdered and thousands more kidnapped while millions have become internally displaced without any attempt by this government to cater to their basic needs. Southeastern and Southwestern states are not immune from the spike in the country’s insecurity as the Federal Government under the APC seems to have yielded the security space to insurgents and other criminal groups terrorizing Nigerians despite the trillions of Naira thrown into fighting terrorists annually. It has remained a very poor return on investment as the results do not reflect the huge investments of public funds on fighting insecurity.
“The APC government has abandoned Nigerians to the elements of insecurity and socioeconomic vagaries. The egregious incompetence of the APC government has made kidnapping the most lucrative criminal enterprise in Nigeria to the extent that the Security Perception Index, SPI, published by the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, exposed that Nigerians paid a whopping 2.2 trillion Naira to kidnappers within one year of Tinubu’s administration – from May 2023 to April 2024. The situation is getting worse rather than abate.
“We commiserate the families of the latest victims of these senseless killings in Borno state and across the country. May God Almighty give you the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses.
” The only response from the government so far was to condemn this heinous tragedy. What can condemnation do in redressing this avoidable calamity? What Nigerians want is a revolutionary redesign of the security architecture of this country, a capacity that the All Progressives Congress largely lacks. Nigerians will do well to reject APC in 2027 and throw them away from the governance space with their votes in order to recover the territorial integrity of Nigeria from insurgents and reclaim the internal peace and security of the country from common criminals. For the APC to continue beyond 2027 holds a calamitous potential for Nigeria” the statement concluded.
