Kebbi Customs Boss Says Efficiency, Security And Prosperity Main Target

Kebbi Area Command of the Nigerian Customs on Monday joined their counterparts across Nigeria to celebrate this year, 2025, International Customs Day, tagged “delivering on commitment to efficiency, Security and prosperity”.
In his keynote address at the ceremony, the Area Controller of Customs, Kebbi State Command, Ernerst Ihanacho Orjike admonished that services under new Customs current management had shown that it’s attention, management and focus is not limited to seaport alone, but also to the land borders.
Pointing outout that, areas of strength and Challenges are identified and areas of actions are being priortised, adding that spirited efforts have been made by the management to secure the land borders while facilitating trades.
Mr. Ojike also said negligence of responsibility can make the borders a leeway for the entrance of all sorts of instruments of insecurity into the Country, as negligence can also make open up the land borders as avenue for huge economic leakages against the country.
“It is also to this end that the mnagement introduced innovative measure and tools to fight the scourge of insecurity of smuggling and insecurity, as drone was introduced to offer real time inteligence and to offer real time intelligence of event at the borders.
“Introduction of none instructive tools like scanners at the baggage areas, introduction of the single window technology for effective and simplified border management of trade.
“Introduction of modern of the WCO Data model technology system for effective coordinated border management, establishment of One-Stop-Joint-Border post at some of the borders to improve trade facilitation by cutting of duplicity and cumbersime process during trades between Countries.
“Reduction of Non-tariff trade barriers that hamper international trade and printing down of numerous check post along the border routes. Noting that recently, series of meetings and engagement were held with our Beninois counterparts with the view of reopening the Tsamiya/Segbana border as a One-stop-Joint border post.”
Controller Ojike assured that it is only matter of time before we see border opened to activities as all moderlities have been reached to that effect.
He assured further that ernomous wealth will be created for both Countries at that corridor for individuals residing along that axis to enjoy tremendous benefit of subsidiary trades.
