Police Arraigns 4 Suspects For Obstruction On Public Highway
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has charged four drivers to court for road obstruction in line with its earlier warning that drivers should desist from causing blockages on the roads across the state.
It will be recalled that the Command had earlier warned that it will come hard on any person or group of persons that take laws into their hands by blocking the roads anywhere in the state.
Arising from this riot act, it has therefore charged four suspects to court for obstructing public highway on Monday, 10th February 2025 to serve as deterrent to those who might decide to go against its warning.
The incident took place at about 2100 hours when a truck driver attached to Sterling Global Construction Company recklessly hit a tricycle rider conveying passengers.
The accident caused damage to the tricycle and injury to its passengers.
Eye witness account reveals that in an attempt to prevent the driver from fleeing, other truck drivers; four in number, mobilized and deliberately blocked the public highway thereby disrupting vehicular movements.
This road blockage attracted police presence with officers making frantic efforts to de-escalate the situation and restore normalcy.
The police action was however resisted by the truck drivers leading to the four trucks being impounded and taken to the station.
The four suspects were arrested, investigated and charged to court accordingly.
According to the statement, “The Akwa Ibom State Police Command will not tolerate any act of lawlessness and obstruction of public highways.
“The full weight of the law will be brought upon those involved”, to quote a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), Akwa Ibom State Police Command, DSP Timfon John.
The statement also surmised that, “under the leadership of CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, the Command remains steadfast in ensuring law and order across the state. We urge all road users and members of the public to conduct themselves responsibly and cooperate with the police in fostering a safe and orderly society”, it concluded.
