CACOL Commends Tinubu On ‘The Nigeria First Policy’ …Says It’s A Bold Economic Directive
The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, CACOL, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration for the recent rollout of the groundbreaking economic directive, The Nigeria First Policy, a transformative move that prioritizes locally manufactured goods and services in all government procurements.
This decisive policy reflects a long-overdue shift towards economic self-reliance, national pride, and the revitalization of our domestic industries.
In a release issued by CACOL and signed by Tola Oresanwo, the anti-corruption organization’s Director, Administration and Programmes on behalf of its Chairman, Mr. Debo Adeniran, he stated, “The Nigeria First Policy aimed at promoting domestic production, supporting indigenous industries, and reducing dependence on foreign products is a step in the right direction”.
According to the statement, “Nigeria First Policy is not merely a slogan, it is a bold step toward reversing years of economic sabotage fueled by over-reliance on imported goods and services. For too long, previous administrations permitted the unchecked importation of products that could be efficiently produced by Nigerian hands, using Nigerian resources.
“This negligence not only stifled local innovation but also drained our foreign reserves, weakened the naira, and pushed countless small and medium enterprises to the brink of collapse.
“By institutionalizing a preference for locally produced goods in public procurement processes, the Tinubu-led administration has reignited hope for Nigerian manufacturers, farmers, artisans, and service providers. The policy is expected to:Create jobs across multiple sectors, reducing youth unemployment and rural-urban migration.
“Boost industrial growth and strengthen value chains within Nigeria.Conserve foreign exchange and stabilize the nation’s currency. Enhance national security by reducing dependence on foreign supply chains. Foster national pride and a culture of self-sufficiency.
“This policy is a win for all Nigerians. It reflects a deep understanding that true economic sovereignty begins with supporting what we make and growing what we eat. We urge all stakeholders from federal ministries to state governments, from procurement officers to private contractors to fully embrace and implement the Nigeria First Policy in letter and in spirit.”
“We at CACOL would like to use this opportunity to commend the President Tinubu led administration for this initiative and also call on the National Assembly to enact complementary legislation that will provide legal backing for this directive, ensuring its sustainability beyond political cycles.
