Osun Football Stakeholders Appeal To Adeleke For Urgent Completion Of Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan Road Rehabilitation

The Osun State Football Association (FA), alongside football stakeholders and passionate fans, has made a fresh appeal to the Osun State Government to prioritise the rehabilitation and completion of the Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan Road, a major route currently in deplorable condition and affecting the smooth running of football activities in the state.

Since the commencement of reconstruction works at the Osogbo Township Stadium, the town of Ileogbo has become the new hub of football in Osun State, hosting critical matches for Osun United and Igbajo United in the ongoing Nigeria National League (NNL) season every weekend.

In addition, 15 grassroots clubs currently play their Nationwide League One (NLO) matches at the LanreLeke Stadium, Ileogbo, making the road a vital corridor for teams, officials, fans, and other stakeholders.

Fans who travel on the road for matches have consistently lamented the poor state of the road.

Mr. Adedayo Akinlabi, a passionate supporter of Osun United, said:”It is becoming frustrating to risk this bad road every weekend just to support our team. The potholes are dangerous, and the journey that should take minutes now takes over an hour. We are appealing to the government to help us.”

Echoing the concerns of the football community, Chairman of the Osun Football Association, Sola Fanawopo, made a heartfelt appeal to the State Government:

“Football has become a unifying factor in Osun State, and Ileogbo has been a gracious host to both league and grassroots matches since the Osogbo Stadium project began. However, the poor state of the Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan road has placed a huge burden on our teams, fans, and officials. We humbly appeal to His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke, to make the rehabilitation of this road a top priority. Beyond easing the suffering of football stakeholders, completing the road will enhance the image of Osun State to visiting clubs and football authorities coming into Ileogbo weekly.”

The Osun FA reiterated its commitment to promoting football development at all levels and urged the government to see sports infrastructure and access roads as key components of community and youth development.

Signed:

Sola Fanawopo

Chairman, Osun State Football Association
