Forestry Research Institute Of Nigeria Achieves Milestone With First Seedling Harvest At Igbajo Sub Station
Igbajo Development Association IDA has proudly announced that the Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN) has successfully harvested the first batch of seedlings at the newly established Igbajo Sub-Station.
This landmark achievement marks a pivotal step in FRIN’s ongoing efforts to promote reforestation, biodiversity preservation, and climate resilience across Nigeria.
The Igbajo Sub Station, a facility dedicated to advancing forestry research and seedling production, has successfully cultivated its inaugural batch of high-quality seedlings, poised to support afforestation initiatives and restore degraded ecosystems across Nigeria.
The 15,000 harvested seedlings, comprising a diverse range of indigenous tree species, are a testament to FRIN’s innovative approaches to sustainable forestry. These species were carefully selected to enhance ecological balance, support local livelihoods, and combat the effects of deforestation and climate change.
Olojudo ‘Sola Fanawopo President IDA, expressed enthusiasm about the milestone, stating, “The successful harvest at the Igbajo Sub Station is a proud moment for the Igbajo community and FRIN and a beacon of hope for Nigeria’s environmental future.

”The Igbajo Sub Station is part of FRIN’s broader strategy to establish regional hubs for seedling production and distribution, ensuring that communities across Nigeria have access to resilient, high-quality planting materials. This initiative aligns with national and global goals for environmental sustainability, including Nigeria’s commitments under the African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative (AFR100) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
IDA extends its gratitude to FRIN whose support has been instrumental in bringing the Igbajo Sub Station to fruition.
The Igbajo community remains committed to supporting FRIN’s initiatives and outreach efforts, with plans to scale up tree planting in the community with the recent inauguration of 10 year comprehensive tree planting scheme, integrating commercial value, environmental protection, and afforestation.
