LG Poll: Group Commends LASIEC …Urges Winners To Be Magnanimous In Victory….Says There’s Room For Improvement

The Coalition of Political Parties in Lagos State, COPPILS, has commended the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC, for the conduct of free, fair and credible local government elections across the 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas across the state.

Speaking at a news conference in Lagos on Thursday, COPPILS’s spokesman, Kola Ajayi flanked by its Secretary, Comrade Shola Omolola and the Convener, Hon Akinola Obadia said, ” We particularly recognise the leadership of Hon Justice Bola Okikiola- Ighile rtd and her dedicated team for their professionalism and commitment to electoral integrity in the face of notable challenges.

” We equally appreciate the security agencies for their neutrality and professionalism throughout the electoral process, which contributed significantly to the peaceful conduct of the elections. “

The group, however, congratulated all the successful candidates across the state and urged them to be magnanimous in victory.

The group said the Coalition, which comprises both registered and deregistered political parties , civil society organisations, and ethnic based groups, also notes with concern the persistent issue of voters apathy.

” In view of this , we advocate the formation of a tripartite engagement mechanism involving the State Government, LASIEC, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, National Orientation Agency, NOA, civil societies and other relevant stakeholders to strategise on voters education, awareness, and participation ahead of 2027 general elections.

” We must collectively take urgent steps to reawaken the public interest in the electoral process and remind our citizens that voting is not just a right- it’s a civic responsibility and a powerful tool for a change,” the group said while reaffirming its commitment to deepening democratic institutions in Lagos state and Nigeria at large.
