Jakande Proclaims Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA 6th Legislative House; Charges New Councillors To Collaborate For Greater Heights

Hon Seyi Jakande, Executive Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has officially proclaimed the commencement of the 6th Legislative arm of the Council during a ceremony held at its Secretariat on Tuesday.

This momentous occasion marks a new chapter in the council’s dedication to effective governance and community development.

The leadership of the new Legislative Chamber was swiftly established thereafter, with Hon. Olamilekan Adeyi from Ward L emerging as the Leader while Hon. Haruna Omotayo Adeosun (Ward A2) was elected as the Deputy Leader.

This leadership team embodies a diverse representation of the council, each bringing unique insights and experiences to the legislative process.

The new Councillors, in no particular order are: Hon. Nurudeen Shodipe (Ward A1), Hon. Haruna Omotayo Adeosun (Ward ,A2), Hon. Lookman Akinbiyi, Hon. Ibrahim Ipaye(Ward B2), Hon. Adisa Ramon Babatunde, Hon. Bode Adeosun( Ward C1B), Hon. Yusuf Femi Godo( Ward C2), Hon.Omotayo Zainab Adeshewa Kosoko(Ward C3H) and Hon. Olamilekan Adeyi ( Ward L).

While speaking to the press team after the proclamation, Jakande urged the newly sworn-in councillors to collaborate closely and work effectively as a unified body.

“The strength of our leadership lies in our collaboration and shared vision for the advancement of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye,” he emphasized.

“I implore each of them to prioritise teamwork, open communication, and mutual respect as we strive for greater heights.”

He further encouraged the councillors to engage actively with their constituents, ensuring that their voices are heard in the legislative process.

“Our duty is to the people we serve. We need to embark on this journey with the commitment to uplift the living standards of our residents and cultivate a prosperous community,” he stated.

Hon Adeyi, the House Leader, expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him and reflected on the smooth conduct of the day’s proceedings, which stemmed from collective understanding and collaboration.

He emphasized his commitment to fostering unity within the House and aligning with the executive Chairman’s vision to ensure effective governance.

Hon. Adeyi further outlined his mandate to be the true voice of the people, focusing on translating their hopes into meaningful legislative actions in critical areas such as security, education, and sanitation.

He called for teamwork and mutual respect, urging members to rise to their responsibilities with purpose, guided by values of service, collaboration, and lasting impact.

Hon. Bode Adeosun, representative of Ward C1B, expressed his gratitude and humility while addressing the press, highlighting the historic significance of being re-elected for a second term, as a testament to the trust his constituents have in his leadership.

Drawing on his previous experience in governance, he emphasized the importance of teamwork and collaboration for achieving progress, affirming his commitment to uphold the integrity of the House and ensure that the voices of the community are both heard and acted upon during his tenure.

The only female member of the Legislature, Hon Zainab Kosoko from Ward C3H, expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to serve, emphasizing her unique position as the only female representative in the legislative chamber.

“As the only female voice among many in our legislative chamber, I am both humbled and honoured to stand in this unique position.”

She emphasized her commitment to focusing on the development of youth and children, asserting that they are the leaders of tomorrow.

Kosoko also called for breaking traditional barriers to encourage more educated and capable women to participate in governance, declaring, ”It is time we broke traditional barriers and encourage more educated and capable women to bring their voices into governance.”

With a message of empowerment, she encouraged all women and girls, proclaiming, ”Let my journey remind you that your voice matters. Let us rise together to shape a more inclusive and progressive political landscape.”

Also speaking after the inauguration, Hon Ipaye, representing Ward B2, emphasized the importance of his role as a people’s representative, stated, “My primary responsibility is to identify the key needs of my constituents and communicate them effectively to the executive for necessary support and action.”

Addressing a significant challenge posed by the electricity distribution company’s planned maintenance, which will cause a total blackout for 25 days in certain areas, Ipaye shared the proactive measures being taken.

To mitigate the impact of the blackout, he announced, “We have made arrangements to provide generators and fuel to power public boreholes,” ensuring that residents have uninterrupted access to water during this period.

Ipaye expressed his unwavering commitment to supporting his constituents, asserting, “I am committed to delivering more support and development to Ward B2, and I look forward to working tirelessly to meet the needs of my people.”

As the 6th Legislative House sets out on its journey, the community eagerly anticipates positive changes and impactful initiatives that will enhance local governance.
