Proposed Anglican Diocese For Ikorodu Receives A Boost As Chief Aluko Pledges N2m

Efforts to create an Anglican Diocese for Ikorodu and its environs today got a boost with a pledge of N2,000,000.00 (Two Million Naira Only) towards meeting the financial requirements.

Chairman, Enlightenment Committee, Gbenga Onayiga in a statement said the Baale of Owutu, High Chief Joseph Aluko made the pledge today when members of the Implementation Committee for the creation of the proposed Diocese paid him an advocacy visit.

Baale Aluko said the donation is a practical demonstration of his belief in the project and to encourage all sons and daughters of Ikorodu to be part of the drive.

High Chief Aluko, a devoted Anglican, outlined the benefits of creating a separate diocese for Ikorodu and urged all residents to give their moral and financial support.

The leader of the delegation and Archdeacon of Ikorodu Anglican Archdeaconery, Venerable Taiwo Arowolo expressed the appreciation of the committee for the love and encouragement of the traditional ruler of Owutu.

He pointed out that the proposed diocese would provide a veritable ground for the spread of the gospel of Jesus Christ in Ikorodu and its environs.

“Ikorodu is blessed with a vast expanse of virgin land for church planting and long overdue to have a diocese,” Venerable Arowolo maintained.

The Chairman, Implementation Committee, Proposed Diocese for Ikorodu, Mr Tunde Gbolade urged Baale Aluko to use his good offices to solicit the support of indigenes and residents of Ikorodu.

Mr Gbolade expressed confidence that the proposed diocese would be a reality in no distance future.

The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Lagos West, the Right Rev’d (Dr) James Odedeji on the 5th of December last year inaugurated the Implementation Committee to ensure the creation of a diocese in Ikorodu.
