Afenifere Canvases For Use Of Drones To Fight Insecurity ….Urges FG To Accelerate Rehabilitation Of Bad Roads …Congratulates Ladoja

Yoruba pan socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere has urged the Federal government to deploy modern gadgets to fight insecurity plaguing Nigeria.

Rising from its Caucus Meeting held in Akure on Tuesday, Afenifere also hailed the Tinubu led administration on the rehabilitation of roads embarked upon in the south West, urging it to accelerate work on it.

Comrade Jare Ajayi in an electronic mail sent to Newsnowonline.com.ng said far reaching resolutions and decisions were taken at the meeting.

The Caucus also congratulated the new Olubadan elect, HRM Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF A CAUCUS MEETING HELD IN THE PLACE OF THE LEADER, CHIEF REUBEN FASORANTI IN AKURE

A Caucus Meeting of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, met in the Akure-home of the Leader, Chief Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, OFR, CFR on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

As is the tradition, the Leader, Pa Fasoranti, declared the meeting opened. The meeting then began in earnest after an opening prayer with the Executive Committee Chairman, Oba Olu Falae, CFR, GCON presiding.

The meeting deliberated on issues pertaining to the Yorubas and Nigeria. Issues discussed included the current situation of insecurity in Yorubaland and in some other parts of Nigeria, economy, transport, agriculture and social welfare.

Note was taken of the deplorable condition that banditry has assumed particularly in parts of Kwara, Kogi, Ogun, Ondo and Oyo States, the seeming genocide in Benue, Plateau, Niger and Katsina states.

Afenifere also considered some of the socio-economic situations prevailing in the country.

After comprehensive deliberations, the meeting was resolved as follows:

1. Afenifere takes note of the efforts of the federal government to tackle the economic challenges the country is facing. Having noticed that the impact of some of the steps taken are already being felt in some aspects of the economy, Afenifere calls on the government to work harder on its economic reform policies so as to ensure that the country’s economy bounces back and become stronger.

2. Note is also taken of various efforts of the goverment to tackle the increasing security situation in the country. Afenifere feels that much as the security agencies are trying their best, a lot still needs to be done to stem the undesirable insecurity situation going on in different parts of the country.

In this respect, Afenifere calls for accelerated actions for the urgent take-off of the much announced state police.Besides, as the National Security Adviser, Mr. Nuhu Ribadu suggested, local communities should be encouraged and funded to defend themselves.

Furthermore, we feel that while both kinetic and non-kinectic strategies are employed to combat banditry and terrorism, community leaders, politicians and the locals should identify and check internal saboteurs and those who are collaborating with criminals.

In the same vein, there is the need for strong policies on justice, fairness and a determination to ensure that no group of people constitute danger or threat to other people, especially in their ancestral homes.

In the light of the above, Afenifere is recommending the following steps:

a). Modern technology equipment be procured and appropriately deployed. Some of these are drones, close circuit cameras etc. Security personnel should also be motivated and encouraged.

b) All the Impediments against the enforcement of Anti-Open grazing laws passed by some state governments be removed. This is to put a check on the destructions being visited on farmlands and stem farmers/herders clashes

(c). The federal and state governments to encourage business entrepreneurs and individuals in the livestock sector to set up ranches.

3. The meeting lauds the federal government for the road projects being carried out in various parts of the country. It again called for reconstruction works to be accelerated on Ibadan-Ife-Ilesa-Akure Road, Ibadan-Oyo-Ogbomoso-Ilorin Road, Ibadan-Ijebu-ode Road, Ibadan-Abeokuta Road among others.We call on the authorities to prevail on contractors who have been mobilized to quickly move to the sites while those who are already on sites should expedite actions.

4. As Afenifere has repeatedly advocated, we strongly believe that Restructuring of the country is a panacea for tackling most of the country’s problems. In this wise, we call for an urgent Bill to be sent to the National Assembly for this purpose.

5. The meeting heartily congratulates His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, as he ascends the exalted throne of Olubadan of Ibadanland. We pray that his reign will be long, peaceful and development-oriented. We are hopeful that the Yorubas and Yorubaland will continue to move ever forward by the grace of the Almighty God, amen.
