Idris Orders Immediate Reversal Of N4.7 Million Deducted From Kebbi ‘s Teacher’s Salaries

The Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has directed the reversal of the N4.7 million deducted from Teachers’ September salaries by the State Ministry of Education through the Ministry of Finance, describing it as illegal and uncalled for.

Malam Murtala Usman, the State Chairman of the NLC in company of State Chairman of NUT made this known while briefing newsmen in Birnin Kebbi, the State capital, on Friday.

He said the Congress’ attention was drawn to the deductions following complaints from the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in the State.

Usman revealed that an inquiry committee was set up, which confirmed that the deductions were carried out as professional registration fees for the Teachers Registration Council (TRC).

“The NLC delegation interfaced with the state Ministries of Education and Finance and later met with Gov. Idris.

“It was revealed that the deduction was not approved by the governor, nor was he pre informed before the action was taken.

“Consequently, the governor directed the immediate refund of the deductions to the affected teachers,” Usman said.

The Chairman added that the governor had also cautioned the Ministry of Finance and other relevant agencies to desist from making any salary deductions without due approval.

The governor further urged workers to always channel their complaints through their unions for necessary action.
