INEC Chair, Yakubu Mahmoud, Steps Down For May Agbamuche

The Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Yakubu Mahmoud has handed over the reins to May Agbamuche in acting capacity.

Prof Mahmoud who is due for retirement after serving the two term of five years each.

He handed over at a short ceremony at the INEC headquarters on Tuesday after a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners.

Ms Agbamuche being the most senior national Commissioner is expected to chair INEC in acting capacity until President Bola Tinubu appoint the new chairman.

It will be recalled that Prof Yakubu Mahmoud was appointed in 2015 when the then INEC chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega resigned.

Prof Mohmoud was also reappointed in 2020 after the 5-year first tenure.
