Terrorism:Group Hails Conviction And Sentencing Of IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu

A political pressure group, The Progressives has described the life imprisonment sentence slammed on the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu as victory for Nigeria in the War Against Terrorism.

The Group in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Prince Adewale Samson ,commended the judiciary for its courageous and detailed conviction and sentencing of proscribed terrorist organization leader, Nnamdi Kanu on all 7 count charges, whom the court described as an international terrorist.

The statement read ; “We applaud and regard this conviction and sentencing of the international terrorist Nnamdi Kanu as a victory in the war against terrorism for Nigeria.”

The group noted that like every concerned individuals and groups who are troubled by the recurring security challenges bedevilling the Nigerian society.

“We have watched in awe and shock how people who are supposed to know better have fraudulently attempted to paint a terrorist organization like IPOB as a freedom fighting one even in the face of its incontrovertible atrocities of terror of maiming and killing of innocent Nigerians and destruction of public and private properties, most especially in the South Eastern part of Nigeria.

“We also watched in utter disbelief how convicted and international terrorist Nnamdi Kanu since 2015 has engaged in theatrics of all sorts to stall his arraignment through frivolous and vexatious petitions that prolonged his trial and which he capped up with his unruly and disrespect to the court conduct and the Lead Judge on the day of his conviction, that made the trial judge to order the security operatives to walk him out of court in line with judicial rules and procedures,” the statement added.

The group commended the judiciary for standing up on the side of truth and justice by enduring the provocations, tantrums and disrespect shown to it by international terrorist Nnamdi Kanu and his legal team until he dismissed them while the trial lasted.

“We believe that Justice James Omotosho of the federal high court in Abuja must be specially commended for his patience, perseverance, diligence and forthrightness in the handling of the terrorism trial and for dispensing justice to the society and victims of Nnamdi Kanu instigated terror in the South Eastern part of Nigeria and in Lagos during the 2020 EndSARS protest of anarchy by the conviction and sentencing of the international terrorist.

“With this conviction and sentencing of international terrorist Nnamdi Kanu and the ISWAP commander Husseni Ismaila only recently and many others in the past, as well as the relentless war against terrorism and other forms of criminality being waged by our security agencies across the country.

“The Nigerian State is hereby sending a clear message to the world that it’s war against terrorism will be aggressively waged and won within the ambit of the rule of law, no matter how long it takes.We call on POTUS Trump to Collaborate with Nigeria to wage this war against Terrorists.

“We acknowledge his searchlight on Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern as a way to Assist Nigeria to Combat this Security Challenges instead of Condemnation or Forceful take over of our Country.”
