Afenifere Mourns Segun Awolowo: ‘He Was A Gentleman’ …. As Delegation Pays Condolence Visit
Much as we know that death is inevitable, we are often saddened by the demise of our beloved ones particularly because they meant a lot to us.
This was part of the remarks made by former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore while delivering the message of Afenifere Leader, Chief Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, OFR, CON, during the condolence visit of the organisation’s delegation to the widow of late Barrister Olusegun Awolowo Jnr.
Segun, as he was popularly called, a grand son of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, SAN, GCFR, died on November 21, 2025 at 62.
Omisore stated that the loss of a beloved one is always heart-rending. “But what can we do other than to accept the will of God who giveth and taketh”.
He added that although the departure of Mr. Awolowo Jnr is quite painful, giving his age, “but we take consolation in the fact that he led a glorious life. He carried the flag of our highly revered leader and father, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, aloft. He led a life of integrity and service.”
Segun was regarded as a well-bred, a quitessential Omoluabi.
The erstwhile Senator prayed for the widow, children and grandchildren of the departed as well as all those he left behind within the immediate and extended families.
Responding, Segun’s widow, Mrs. Bola Awolowo expressed gratitude to Afenifere leader and to members of the delegation that visited.
“On behalf of the entire family, we express appreciation for rembembering us and for your visit”, she added.
In the delegation were Agbaakin Ademola Folarin, Secretary General of Afenifere, Chief Dare Babarinsa, Treasurer, Comrade Jare Ajayi, National Publicity Secretary and Honourable Lanre Laoshe, a member of the organization.
It would be recalled that Afenifere, in a statement issued immediately after the death of Mr. Segun Awolowo Jnr was announced, had described the deceased as a grandson of the illustrious sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowowho embodied “the principles of integrity, service, stoicism and leadership that his grandfather displayed”.
The organisation further noted that like his grandfather, Segun “lived an exemplary life of dedicated service to our country and to his community, with humility, devotion, steadfastness and an astute sense of purpose.
” He followed the Awolowo doctrine of unalloyed public-spiritedness to the letter”.
The statement was jointly signed by the organisation’s Secretary General, Agbaakin Ademola Folarin and the National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Jare Ajayi.
