Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu Expresses Hope On Future Of Yorubas And Nigeria …. As She Receives Afenifere’s Delegation In Ikenne
The heiress of Awolowo family, Ambassador (Dr) Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu, has expressed optimism on the future of the Yorubas and Nigeria just as she praised Afenifere Leader, Chief Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti for his leadership and steadfastness.
Tokunbo stated these while recieving the delegation sent by Pa Fasoranti OFR, CFR, to commiserate with Awolowo family in Ikenne, Ogun State on the demise of Mr. Segun Awolowo Jnr.
Segun, the first grandson of the late sage, died in November this year, aged 62.
According to Dr. Awolowo-Dosunmu, Fasoranti, has stood firmly with the Awolowo family both during the lifetime of the sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and even after he passed on.
Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu, former Nigerian Ambassador to The Netherlands, thanked Pa Fasoranti “for his unfailing fatherly love and support towards the family”.
Delivering Pa Fasoranti’s condolence message earlier, former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, had said that the passing away of Mr Awolowo Jnr at this crucial time “created a vacuum”.
A statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, Comrade Jare Ajayi, quoted Omisore as enjoining the “Awolowos and all the beloved ones left behind by the deceased not to despair because he ( Segun) led a meaningful life and left a good legacy.”According to the Afenifere Leader, foremost among the legacies that a person can leave behind is a good name.
“We are remembering our foremost Leader, Pa Obafemi Awolowo today, not through the quantum of money or splendour of housing estates he left behind, but because of the positive contributions he made and a life of integrity that he led. Luckily, our son, Segun, emulated this by conducting himself with dignity.”
Omisore and the team assured their host of the unwavering steadfastness of Afenifere on all that Pa Obafemi Awolowo stood for.
The delighted Ambassador Tokunbo expressed optimism about the future of Yoruba race and Nigeria.
She asked the delegation to inform Pa Fasoranti of the goodwill of the family in addition to wishing the old man more years of meritorious services to Yorubaland and Nigeria.
Jointly, they prayed for Afenifere, for the Yorubas and for our dear country, Nigeria.
The delegation was then led on a tour of historical spots in the premises, including Awo Museum, Awo Library and Efunyela Hall.
