On The Recent Statement By Senator David Mark, Atiku Abubakar, And The Moral Authority Gap

​I have reviewed the recent public statement by Senator David Mark, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and other political leaders concerning the state of the nation.​

The substance of their diagnosis is undeniable: Nigeria faces severe economic strain, rampant insecurity, institutional decay, and a collapse of public confidence. These stark realities demand urgent national attention.

​However, the conversation must pivot from diagnosis to the essential question of sincerity and moral authority.

​The signatories are not distant observers. They are prominent, enduring figures who held senior power positions for decades. It is critical to note that the very crises they now lament—the foundations of crippling national debt and institutional rot – were either created or left unresolved during their years in office.​“In moments of profound national crisis, truth is essential – but credibility is decisive.

”​Public critique carries weight only when accompanied by honest self-introspection. Without a clear acknowledgement of their own past policy failures and missed opportunities, these statements risk being perceived merely as cynical political repositioning.​

Nigeria stands at a critical crossroads. The country requires leadership grounded in humility, courage, and responsibility – from those currently in power and from those who once held it.​

​It is my hope that all leaders will rise above expediency and place the long-term stability and prosperity of Nigeria above partisan ambition.
