Boko Haram: No UNIMAID Student Is Being Investigated Or Detained For Terrorist Activities-Registrar

The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has dismissed as false a viral video circulating on social media that claims some of its students were arrested over alleged ties to the Boko Haram insurgency.
Reacting to the development, the management of the institution described the video as misleading and capable of inciting fear and misunderstanding among the public.
The university clarified that the claims did not originate from any official security or government source.
In a statement released on Tuesday in Maiduguri, the Registrar of the university, Ahmad Lawan, stated that thorough checks confirmed that no UNIMAID student is being investigated or detained for involvement in terrorist activities.
He emphasized that the university maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward extremism, violence, and criminal conduct, noting that the institution has long partnered with security agencies and community stakeholders to promote peace and stability in the North-East.
According to the statement, UNIMAID remains a centre of learning populated by responsible and disciplined students whose primary focus is academic excellence and personal development.
The university warned against the spread of unverified information, urging social media users, media organizations, parents, and guardians to rely only on credible sources for information concerning the institution.
Meanwhile, the university reassured the public of its continued commitment to moral discipline, national unity, and the production of graduates who contribute positively to society, while calling for calm and responsible information sharing.
