Momentum Builds For Gov. Abba Yusuf’s Defection To APC After High-Level Meeting With Tinubu
The political pathway appears increasingly clear for Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), following what sources describe as a decisive, high-level meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.
Politics Digest reliably gathered that the governor’s camp erupted in jubilation after the private parley, with insiders indicating that weeks of political uncertainty have given way to renewed confidence.
Senior party officials familiar with the discussions say the “risky political dilemma” earlier associated with the defection talks has been significantly de-escalated, amid assurances from the presidency regarding the governor’s political future.
Although no official communiqué has been issued on the outcome of the meeting, a high-ranking APC leader from the North-West told Politics Digest that the president’s intervention has provided Governor Yusuf with sufficient reassurance to move forward with plans to exit the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
According to the source, the governor was encouraged to allay concerns over his eligibility for an automatic APC gubernatorial ticket in 2027—a major sticking point that had previously stalled negotiations.“The course is becoming clearer,” the source said.
