Lagos Moves To Cut Cost Of Governance, Office Rental Spending
…Sanwo-Olu promises delivery of multi-agency complex, LAGIS centre within weeks
By BENJAMIN OMOIKELAGOS, Nigeria – To scale down the incidental costs of premises rentals and accommodate all Parastatals of the State within the Secretariat vicinity, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has promised to complete the construction of Multi-Storey Office Complex, and the EGS Building at the Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja by September.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, stated this while inspecting the completion Works on The Multi-Agency Building and the Lagos State Geographical Information System(LAGIS) Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.
The Multi-Agency Building Project is a multi-storey building consisting of 3 no blocks i.e. A, B and C an- a total area of site of 2.01 hectares with block B consisting of 8 (eight) floors in height while the other blocks (A&C) are 5 (five) floors each. The 3 (three) blocks (A, B & C) have a Penthouse on the last floor. The first two floors of each block are earmarked for parking while the upper floors are meant for office accommodation. The Pent-Houses are exclusively for conferencing.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday said, “we’ve just finished a very quick, inspection of the multi-agency office complex and the EGIS building, and as you can see, the multi-agency is practically completed. It’s just to do, finishings around, the setbacks and the land scaping completion.”
While expressing satisfaction at the completion works the Governor said, I’m impressed with, the level of work the contractors have been able to achieve, and we believe that in another few weeks, they should have done the, the extreme cleanup of the complex. Speaking on the Lagos State Geographical Information System (LAGIS) Centre, the Governor said, “And of course, next to the Multi Agency Complex is the EGIS building, which is a very unique building. It’s a unique building because it meets, our requirement in interspatial and EGIS, deliverables, which is meant to be part of our solutions to land administration. We needed to be aachieve that very, very quickly for the next two to three weeks, and I believe that it also should be ready.” The Governor added that the State is expecting a presidential visit soon and hopefully these projects are to form part of the many harvest of projects that Mr President will unveil during the proposed visit to the State. In Governor Sanwo-Olu’s words “what we’re planning to do, by the grace of God, is that we’re expecting a presidential visit, and these are part of a project that might be visited on that trip. The dates are not yet out, so I’m not spilling anything, but we’re just, you know, going around to see and to be able to be a good host when that happens.” He was however quick to reiterate his administration’s determination to reduce the cost of governance and promote synergy between its agencies through the provision of sustainable office infrastructure for its workforce. He said, more importantly is the need to advance quality public service to our citizens. The ambiance in which our civil servants will work, the ambiance in which our, our, our citizens will come and receive them and see the, the space in which services are being rendered is very critical to us as a government, and that’s why we’re here to see, that they do it very well. The other features of this Project include 2 no. elevators, stair-cases, reception lobbies, canteen and kitchens for each block, conveniences, conference rooms on pent-house floors, central air conditioning systems, a fully equipped generator house and accessories, landscaped environment with paving and covered drains, perimeter fencing, suspended milling arcades, car park spaces for over 700 vehicles. The visitation aside from being a strong indication of the determination to ensure prompt completion of the projects conceived by Lagos State Government out of the twin desire to scale down the incidental costs of premises rentals and accommodate most Parastatals of the state within the Secretariat vicinity.
