Tinubu Unveils Remodelled 36-School Tolu Complex, Maracana Sports Facility, Food Hub In Lagos

LAGOS, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated the remodelled Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle, Lagos State, described as one of the largest concentrations of schools in sub-Saharan Africa.

The President, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, also on Thursday, inaugurated additional projects across the state as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen education and infrastructure.

The Tolu Schools Complex, situated on nearly twelve hectares of land in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area, comprises thirty-one secondary schools and five primary schools, alongside vocational centres, science laboratories, ICT and robotics hubs.

The facility also features inclusive learning centres, a modern primary health centre and a fire service station, designed to cater for over twenty thousand students.

Speaking at the event, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, on behalf of the President, described Lagos as a model for other states, noting that the scale and quality of the project reflect a strong commitment to human capital development.

In a goodwill message, the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, said the regeneration of the complex aligns with national policies aimed at expanding access to quality education.

He added that more than one million out-of-school children have returned to classrooms in the past thirty months.

In his address, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu noted that the Tolu Schools Complex, originally established in 1981 under the administration of former governor Lateef Jakande, had deteriorated over time and required comprehensive redevelopment.

He explained that the project was conceived to provide a modern, safe and inclusive learning environment that meets global standards, adding that the state government remains committed to sustained investment in education infrastructure.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Lagos State Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools, Hakeem Smith, said the project was delivered despite significant challenges, driven by the goal of providing world-class teaching and learning facilities.

Beyond the school complex, President Tinubu also inaugurated the Maracana sports complex in Ajegunle, featuring nineteen mini football pitches, as well as a mid-level agro-food hub in Abijo, Ibeju-Lekki.

The event attracted several dignitaries, including Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, ministers, deputy governors, and community leaders.
