Buhari Gave Order That We Should Remove Buni-El-Rufai
Governor of Kaduna State, Mr. Nasir el-Rufai, has opened up on why the former chairman of the All Progressives Congress Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, CECPC, Mai Mala Buni was removed.
Buni who before the bubble burst on Monday was the chairman of the APC CECPC and Governor of Yobe state was removed without the National Executive Committee’s approval.
Speaking on a current affairs program , Politics Today, monitored in Lagos on Wednesday, El-Rufai said President Muhammadu Buhari before traveling for medical vacation in London gave an order that Governor Sani Bello of Niger State should resume on Monday and do all what is humanly possible to ensure that the convention holds, including vacating the court order( injunction) meant to stalemate the convention.
El-Rufai however foreclosed the returning of Buni as the CECPC chairman.
“Buni is gone, he won’t return as chairman again,” he said with the air of finality.
Now, the CECPC led by Sani Bello has announced that NEC meeting will hold on Thursday 17, March 2022, to ratify the removal of Buni and his secretary, Senator Akpan Udoedehe and ensure that the convention holds on March 26 as scheduled.
As a prelude to the NEC meeting, Bello has announced new convention committee yesterday and reduced the 1700 committee earlier empaneled by Buni to about 250 man committee. Bello has also removed the names of Buni, Udoedehe, Femi Fani-Kayode and their cronies from the new list.
All the state chairmen of the APC were also sworn-in to start functioning in their different states.
It’s not clear if Buni and Udoedehe will abide by the decision to remove them without following due process or approach the court to seek redress.
Buni who was in Dubai for medicals returns yesterday to appraise the situation and the way forward.
