CUPP Cautions INEC Against Repeating Inconclusive Election In Kogi State …Urges Commission Not To Cancel Results Indiscriminately

THE Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, has cautioned the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to avoid an election impasse that could result in another ‘inconclusive election’ in Kogi State as witnessed in 2015.

In statement by the CUPP on Sunday signed by its National Co-Spokesperson, Comrade Mark Adebayo, the CUPP cautioned that “The election processes in Kogi State has reached a significant milestone and the election management body, INEC, must do everything to avoid another inconclusive election situation in the state which can generate unnecessary tension and crisis. It does appear that a clear winner is emerging in the results collated and uploaded so far. INEC should remain resolute and refuse to be distracted either by those calling for the cancelation of the entire election or mass cancelation of results in some parts of the state where some politicians feel the results are unfavorable to them.

“The Governorship election has gone considerably much better and peaceful than envisaged and we can’t afford to rock the boat at this stage. We think the security agencies and INEC have delivered creditably in the circumstances of the election and should be commended for what has been done so far. No election is perfect and if there are gross indiscretions anywhere, the Commission should do the needful but must resist untoward pressure from any quarters. We condemn the viral post where an opposition Party member is calling for the blackmail of INEC into announcing his candidate as winner and anyone not pleased should go to Court. That’s a very unpatriotic and undemocratic approach to an election and highly condemnable.

“CUPP is watching events as they unfold in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi States and we urge all concerned to keep the peace.”
