Yaba LCDA Dev: Sanwo-Olu Commissions Remodelled Sabo Ultra-Modern Market
At the event, the Executive Chairman of Yaba Local Council Development Area, Hon. (Dr.) Kayode Adejare Omiyale welcomed the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat who stood in for the governor.
He also welcomed his esteemed entourage and all other dignitaries to the occasion.
In his welcome address Hon. Omiyale gave a brief historical background of the market.
He stated that the market was established seven decades ago, and also informed the audience that since then, the market has undergone upgrading and redevelopment thrice.
He submitted that the redevelopment was carried out to expand the facility to keep up with the ever increasing economic activities in the market, and the general population growth of the residents of Yaba and it’s environs.
Other reasons given for the redevelopment of the facility is to provide services to the people, infrastructural development, and also generate revenue internally for the Local Council Development Area.
The Executive Chairman also reeled out some of his administration’s achievements since the inception of office:
a. Environmental cleanliness, and being awarded the cleanest Local Council Development Area in Lagos State in year 2023
b. Construction of roads
c. Awarded the 1st position in the World Food Day competition in year 2023
d. Empowering youths and women through training in different vocations and equipping them with start-up kits
e. Monthly donation of N20,000 to the elderly and widows as upkeep allowance
f. Provision off support for security by donating patrol vehicles to all Police formations under Yaba jurisdiction
g. Improving the standard of education by giving free exercise books and writing materials to students in all government schools. Yearly distribution of free GCE and JAMB forms to indigent students
h. Improving Health standards through various health programs and equipping the Primary Health Care Centers with revolving drugs to cater for the people, among others.
The Deputy Governor while representing the governor thanked and praised the chairman for a job well done.
He was particularly impressed about the face-lift and improvement given to the model market. He also mentioned the clean state of the environment in Yaba.
He went ahead to commend the chairman for informing the audience about the newly redeveloped modern and state of the art E-Library which has been completed for the use of the general public.
The Deputy Governor thanked the political office holders and the management team of Yaba LCDA.
In his words, he said all these achievements would not have been possible without their cooperation.
