After the initial intrigues that characterised the selection process, Oba Akinloye Olakunlehin has been proclaimed as the Olubadan-elect.
The Osi-Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief Leteef Adebimpe moved the motion to proclaim Olakunlehin as Olubadan-elect in absence of Otun-Balogun, Oba Tajudeen Abimbola Ajibola, who had granted press interview that Oba Olakunlehin was not strong enough to ascend the throne.
Oba Ajibola however lost out among his brethren kingmakers with a vote of 10 to 1.
After the nomination, Oba Olakunlehin has been presented to Ibadan people at the ancient Mapo Hall which confirmed that he is the Oba-elect and the process of commencing the rites/ascendancy to the begins immediately.
According to a member of the Ibile G7 and fomer president of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Mr Lanre Ogundipe, ” To complete the process now, Governor Seyi Makinde has to assent to his nomination, announce the date for official presentation of staff of office and the beaded crown of Ibadan placed on his head”.
