Breaking: Court Restrains NERC,Discos From Implementing New Tariff

The Lagos High Court has restrained the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and 11 Discos from implementing the new tariff for Band A customers.

Justice Lewis Allagoa gave the restraining order on Monday after hearing from the lawyers of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, which filed the lawsuit.

The restraining order is however not prejudice to the obligation of the plaintiff paying their electricity bills at the old rate.

The judge adjourned the case to June 24 for further hearing of the substantive matter.

It would be recalled that the NERC increased the tariff of electricity recently, whereby some customers were placing on Band A depending on hours of power supply daily.

This has drawn the ire of the organised labour and other stakeholders who frowned at the allegedly arbitrary increment without commensurating power supply.
