CSOs Commend Police, Other Security Agencies For Edo State Governorship Election
The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations for Good Governance and Selected Election Observers Groups, has expressed its commendation for the performance of security agencies during the recently concluded Edo State governorship election.
The group said, the election was pivotal in shaping the political landscape of the state, and the security measures implemented by the Police,during the election, played a crucial role in ensuring a peaceful and orderly process.
In a statement signed the Secretary of the Coalition, Comrade Olalekan Johnson, the group extend special recognition to the men and officers of the Nigeria Police Force, whose professional conduct, it says, was instrumental in maintaining law and order throughout the election.
“The proactive measures and dedication of men and officers of the Nigeria Police, significantly contributed to the absence of violence or misconduct, enabling citizens to cast their votes freely and safely. This commitment to professionalism exemplifies the high standards that are necessary for effective law enforcement during critical democratic processes.
“In particular, we commend the leadership of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun. Under his guidance, the Nigeria Police demonstrated an unwavering commitment to impartiality, ensuring that their role during the election was unbiased and supportive of the democratic process. His efforts to cultivate a culture of professionalism within the police force have not gone unnoticed and are vital for enhancing public trust in law enforcement.”
The group said the success of the Edo Guber election is a confirmation to the effectiveness of the strategies employed by the police, reflecting their dedication to upholding the rule of law.
The absence of reported incidents of misconduct by police personnel is a clear indication of the positive impact of Mr. Egbetokun’s leadership and the training initiatives that have been prioritized during his tenure.
“We urge the Nigeria Police Force to continue demonstrating their commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy. The role of the police in maintaining peace during elections cannot be overstated, and it is imperative that they remain vigilant and professional in future electoral processes. Continued training and adherence to ethical standards will further reinforce the public’s confidence in their capabilities.”
The group, further called upon all Nigerians to lend their support to the Nigeria Police under the leadership of IGP Kayode Egbetokun, saying, that public support is essential for the police to function effectively, and a collaborative relationship between citizens and law enforcement will contribute to a more secure and stable democratic environment.
