Cholera Outbreak In Kebbi’s 10 Council Areas; 24 Deaths, 875 Cases Recorded

No fewer than twenty four people have died of cholera outbreak that have ravaged ten Local Government Areas of Kebbi State as eight hundred and seventy five cases have been recorded in the local government areas respectively.
Director of Public Health in the State Ministry of Health, Abubakar Bagudu Muhammad, while speaking with newsmen stated that the state government has taking measures to tackle the escalating cases of the disease across the state.
He stated that, out of the 24 death recorded, 13 are from Suru local government area of the state.
According to him, the outbreak of the cholera was as a result of poor environmental sanitation, flooding, lack of portable water and open defication.
Alhaji Muhammad stated further that the state ministry of health is training clinical personnel to deal with further outbreak of cholera in the state while government has provided all necessary support and funds with assistance from donor agencies such as WHO, SAN Frontier, Unicef and others to privide adequate medication for the victims.
The Director pointed out that the state government was also in collaboration with traditional and religious leaders, traditional doctors to sensitize members of the public on preventive measures against the disease.
