Lagos Legends Club Congratulates Lagos Allstars On Winning Veterans National Cup

The Lagos Legends Club have congratulated Lagos Allstars team for winning the 14th edition of the National Veterans Cup played in Abuja, last week, after defeating Team Abia 3-2 on penalties, after playing out a goalless draw in regulations time.

In his congratulatory message, the Chief Convener of LLC, Engr. Waidi Akanni, expressed his happiness over the feat of the Lagos team, led by captain Friday Ekpo.

Akanni described the team’s feat as heartwarming and testament to the playing prowess of the Lagos team. 

Other players who represented Lagos included Mba Agbai, Lookman Onasanya, Victor Omiunu, Lukmon Ajeigbe, Abu Airede, Andrew Nwokolo, Abu Folami, Kunle Banwo, Amaechi Nwaze, Ugochukwu Maduewosi, Ugochukwu Ibekwe Gideon Oluleye, Wasiu Ipaye, and Victor Agali.

Eight teams took part in the tournament after qualifying from the six geo zones.

They were Abuja and Plateau state (North  Central); Kano (North West); Gombe (North East);  Abia ( South East); Edo (South-South); Oyo and Lagos  (South West).

To reach the final, Lagos State defeated defending champions Oyo 3-0, drew 0-0 and 1-1 with Kano and Abuja respectively, to qualify for the final against Abia, who topped the other group.

Speaking on the tournament, former Stationery Stores star player, MBA Agbai, who doubled as coach-player for the Lagos team, recalled some of the challenges enroute to winning the title.

“We had to play four matches in 3 days. We also had to play with 4 guys above 55years at all times in the games,. And it required a lot of commitment, doggedness, focus and sacrifice to see us through, by the grace of God.”
