Resurgence Of Terrorists Due To Lack Of Accountability In Nigerian Security- Kabir Adamu

“The NFIU has done a great job to unmask the sources of funding of the insurgent, but the government is not willing to act”

A security consultant, Kabir Adamu, has indicted the Nigerian security of lack of accountability in fighting the insurgent.

Speaking on a Channels Television current affairs programme, Morning Briefs, monitored in Lagos on Thursday, Adamu said what is playing out in the resurgence of the insurgents is purely lack of accountability.

According to him, all the 29 security agencies in Nigeria have intelligence but not acting promptly.

According to him, the new director of Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit, NFIU, Hafsat Bakari, has done a great job.

He said his risk assessment in 2024 indicated that there’s going to be resurgence.

He said; ” When we noticed this, I wrote letters to some of the coordinators so that we can sit together and review, but none reply my letters. I also followed up with phone calls because I knew them, yet they didn’t bulge. I’m surprised that the chief of defence staff, Gen Christopher Musa, said he was surprised to find dollars with the Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters.

” The NFIU has done a great job to unmask the sources of funding of the insurgent, but the government is not willing to act.

“I’m a private person. It’s the government that has the responsibility to act. If you googled it now, you’re going to see the report of the UNODC, an organ of the United Nation, on what I’m saying. It’s not hidden.”

Adamu said the three main areas that needed to be blocked are funding, the ability to recruit locals, and improved government presence in the ungoverned area.

The security consultant said if these three areas are blocked, there won’t be any ‘oxygen’ for the insurgents to breathe.
