Group Commends Adeleke For Petitioning EFCC Over Alleged Looting By Oyetola
The Public Sector Transparency Initiative (PSTI) has applauded the Osun State Government for its decision to formally petition the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the alleged misappropriation of public funds amounting to $20 million and over ₦1 billion by former Governor of the State, Mr Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola and officials of his administration.
In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by Dr. Samuel Eluyemi, the civil society organization commended the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke for its commitment to transparency and accountability, describing the move as a reflection of the expectations of the citizens who demand responsible governance and proper scrutiny of public officeholders.
“The Osun State Government’s decision to expose this massive looting of state resources is a courageous step towards ensuring that those entrusted with public funds remain accountable to the people,” the statement read.
“We commend Governor Adeleke for demonstrating leadership by prioritizing the interest of the citizens above political considerations. This action sets a precedent for other states to follow in the fight against corruption.”
PSTI further urged other political leaders across the country to emulate Osun State’s example by holding their predecessors accountable rather than allowing political interests to override the pursuit of justice and good governance.
The civil society group reaffirmed its commitment to following up on the petition and ensuring that due process is followed in bringing all culprits to justice.
It called on the EFCC and other anti-corruption agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations and prosecute those found guilty.
“We urge the EFCC to act decisively on this petition and ensure that justice is served. The fight against corruption must remain non-negotiable, and public officials must know that they will be held accountable for their actions,” the statement concluded.
The Osun State Government’s petition, according to the group, is a significant move in Nigeria’s ongoing fight against corruption, as civil society organizations and citizens alike continue to demand greater transparency and accountability from public office holders.
