Is Payment Of N50k To Submit Petition Standard Practice Under IGP Egbetokun? Lagos Lawyer Asks

A Lagos lawyer, Dr Benson Enikuomehin, has accused the Force Headquarters, Alagbon, Lagos of collecting N50,000.00 before accepting petition from petitioners.

Enikuomehin in a Facebook post titled; ” Attention: ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi, PFPRO, Payment of N50,000.00 To Submit Petition” asked if that’s the standard practice under IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

The Lagos lawyer added that no petition submitted at Alagbon is attended to until N50,000.00 is attached.

PAYMENT OF N50,000.00 TO SUBMIT PETITION

It is important to bring to your attention Sir, that the Police now collect N50,000.00 (Fifty thousand Naira) non-receipted for any petition submitted at the Force Headquarters, Alagbon, Lagos. No petition submitted to this office will be attended to until the N50,000.00 is attached.

Kindly confirm that this is the standard practice in the Police and why receipts of payment are not given.

Official payments made at our courts are receipted for. If this is the standard practice under the watch of Mr. Egbetokun, IGP, the general public should know and receipts should be given for such payments.

Kindly state the official position of the Nigeria Police Force on this matter.
