LG Poll:Lagos APC Women Forum Decries Poor Representation
Lagos women forum has continued to kick against the poor representation in the just concluded All Progressives Congress APC local government primary, preparatory to July 12 council poll.
Despite the initial arrangement that out of every three council and LCDAs, a woman must be elected based on their participation at every circle of election.
In some of the councils and LCDAs, some women that have hitherto been selected by the elders of their constituencies were later replaced.
From Onigbongbo to Ajeromi Ifelodun, Ikorodu, and Itire-Ikate LCDA, it’s a tale of woes for the womenfolk despite assurances that they have secured the chairmanship seats.
In Onigbongbo, Barr Rekiya Hassan was coasting home for victory until some powerful interest within the LCDA imposed Moyosore Adebanjo. Also, the wife of state organising secretary of the APC, Mrs Adewale, nee Adeniji- Adele was denied the ticket of Amuwo Odofin local government where her husband once held forth as chairman.
The imposition across the state seems to be threatened by the forthcoming local government election unless the situation is redressed.
This has further widened the gap between the men and women in terms of political and elective offices in the state.
As if that was not enough, the women group from Agbado Oke-Odo penultimate week stormed the residence of President Bola Tinubu in Bourdillion to register their displeasure. How one Abiodun Ejigbadero embarked on identity theft to take over the LCDA.
With these protests and given the roles that women normally play during elections, it’s important that some of these issues are remedied before the July 12 council poll.
Though, some APC leaders in the state are said to have received directive from President Tinubu to ensure that all appeals and petitions are resolved before the election, especially those that have to do with women marginalisation in order not to jeopardise the electoral fortunes of the Party in the July 12, 2025 council poll.
It remains to be seen if this directive by Mr. President will be complied with to forestall protest votes.
