Gov Idris Sensitizes Fulani Youth On Drug Addiction

Kebbi State Governor, Nasiru Idris has mobilised Fulani Youth across the the state sensiticing them against the menace of drugs consumption, abuse and addiction.

The Fulanis, one of Nigeria’s major tribes with a strong presence in the North, are historically known for their hard work and immense contribution to the economy through livestock rearing , particularly cattle.

Every part of a cow, from its meat, milk, and skin to its dung (used as fertilizer), contributes to the economy.

Gov. Idris launched a special anti-drug campaign, mobilising Fulani communities across the 21 local government areas of Kebbi State.

His goal is to promote attitudinal change and encourage productive living. 

According to him, “90 percent of criminality stems from drug addiction, which fuels insecurity.”

To implement this invaluable and trailblazing initiative, Gov. Idris directed his Special Adviser on Nomadic Matters, Alhaji Muhammad Kiruwa, in collaboration with the Ministry for Animal Health and Fisheries and the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, to embark on a statewide sensitisation across Fulani settlements.

The NDLEA was also included as a key stakeholder in the campaign.

Addressing Fulani leaders, women, and youths in Birnin Kebbi, Alhaji Kiruwa conveyed the Governor’s message, urging the Fulani youths to desist from drug abuse.

He stressed that the Fulani people are an integral part of the society, contributing significantly to the economic development of Kebbi State and Nigeria.

He emphasized that criminality is borne out of drug addiction, leading to insecurity and social decadence.

“The message of His Excellency, Gov. Nasir Idris, is simple and clear: Stop taking drugs, stop abusing drugs. Drugs are the source of criminality and insecurity,” Kiruwa stated.

He added that the Governor was deeply concerned about the alleged involvement of some Fulani youths in drug abuse and other crimes, which violates both the laws of the land and Islamic Shari’a.

Kiruwa also urged the Fulani community to ensure that eligible members register and collect their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections, as a way of supporting and appreciating Gov. Idris’ commitment to their welfare.

He called on the Fulani parents to send their children to school, stressing that education remains the surest path to progress.

Speaking on behalf of the Governor, the Commissioner for Animal Health and Fisheries, Hon. Kabiru Usman Alaramma, explained that out of his love for the Fulanis, Gov. Idris had established a full-fledged Ministry for Animal Health and Fisheries and had commenced the construction of the largest Veterinary Hospital in Nigeria in Birnin Kebbi.

 The State Government, he said, had also entered into MOUs with Indonesia, Brazil, and Germany, among others, to introduce modern technology in animal husbandry.

Earlier, the NDLEA Deputy Commandant, Ibrahim Imam, educated the Fulani gathering on the dangers and consequences of drug abuse.

A Fulani leader, Dikkon Gesse, expressed appreciation to the Governor for his continuous support to the Fulani community and urged his people to register with INEC and collect their PVCs in preparation for the 2027 elections to re-elect the Governor.
