“Be Firm, Just And Sincere In Dealing With Sexual Violence Cases”,Girl Child Initiative Tells Courts

Courts in the country have been urged to be firm, just and sincere in dealing with cases that border on sexual violence, defilement of minor and rape, so as to nip in the bud the growing cases of such inhumane tendencies.

The call was made on Friday in Lagos by the Girl Child Initiative, GCI’s President, Princess Aderemi Fagbemi in a press release, stating that with the passage of the Sexual Offences Bill 2015 by the Senate, it is no more business as usual and as such the courts must discharge their duties without fear or favour.

The organisation thanked Lagos state for leading the fight against sexual offences with the establishment of special courts for such purpose, advised all states of the federation to join Lagos and ensure pedophiles and rapists are dealt with in accordance with the law of the land, especially with the new bill recently passed by the Senate GCI equally urged the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, Ahmed Bola Tinubu not to delay his assent to the bill for its efficient take off for implementation.

In her words, “the passage of the Sexual Offences Bill by the Senate is a welcome development that gladens our hearts and we want to admonish the courts to be firm, just and sincere in handling cases of sexual violence, rape and defilement by predators that are many in the country. Our temple of justice must remain the last hope of the downtrodden”
