By Bukar BOLORI

The Emir of Lafiya, His Royal Highness Hon. Justice Sidi Muhammad Bage I (Rtd.), has praised Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, declaring that he “stands tall among his peers” in the country.

The commendation was delivered on Wednesday when the royal majesty led a delegation on a courtesy call on the Governor at the Government House, Maiduguri.

The Emir, who is the Pro Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, was at the Government House to inform the Governor of the preparation for the university’s 25th combined convocation and its 50th anniversary celebration.

He said, “we want to thank God for giving you this responsibility and for giving you the strength and determination in discharging this great responsibility. It had been enormous, it will continue to be enormous, but Allah has given you good health, the ability, the wisdom and all put together.

“Today, Your Excellency, we must mention it because this is the correct position. Today, Your Excellency, you stand tall amongst the governors; you are one of the best governors in Nigeria.

“I would like to say something to Your Excellency because I am always proud of it. Mr President appointed me as the Chairman of the committee on national honours to advise him on who is to be honoured by this country, and Your Excellency, we met to consider who to honour. The first thing is that there was no nomination from Borno State for the governor. There was no suggestion from any quota nominating the governor, but all of us in the committee nominated His Excellency; it was a unanimous decision of the committee that the best governor in Nigeria should be recommended for the honour.

“When your nomination was sent to the then-President, he said it was an excellent job, and he approved it immediately. Your Excellency, we thank Allah for making you an achiever.”

In his response, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum expressed his profound gratitude to the Emir for the recognition and solidarity.

The governor reiterated his commitment to support the University of Maiduguri, stating: “I want to assure you that in sha Allah, we shall support the activities lined up to be held in the coming days. Borno State Government, under my leadership, will provide the needed support to ensure a smooth take-off of all the activities that will be held.University of Maiduguri is our own; most of us here are products of the University of Maiduguri. So, it is not a choice for us to support the University of Maiduguri; it is an obligation.

The delegation comprises the Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Mele, two Deputy Vice Chancellors, other principal officers, and members of the university’s governing council.
