Yoruba Youth Insists On True Federalism; Rallies Support For Tinubu, Tunji-Ojo, Egbetokun, And NSCDC Boss

The Pan-Yoruba Youth organization, Ìgbìmọ̀ Ọdọ́ Yorùbá Afenifere, has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the ideals of true federalism, national unity, and the collective progress of the Yoruba people, following the successful conclusion of its End-of-the-Year National Congress held on Tuesday, December 23, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The well-attended congress brought together representatives of Yoruba youth organizations from the six South-West states, as well as Kwara, Kogi, and the Yoruba diaspora, to deliberate on critical issues bordering on national development, security, governance, and the socio-political advancement of the Yoruba nation within the Nigerian federation.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the congress and read on its behalf by Prince Olusola Falusi, the organization restated its firm belief that true federalism remains the most viable framework for addressing Nigeria’s structural challenges and for unlocking the full potential of its diverse nationalities.

The congress emphasized that a restructured Nigeria, built on equity, justice, and devolution of powers, is essential for sustainable development and peaceful coexistence.

The congress also commended the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as bold and courageous steps in addressing many of the economic, security, and governance challenges inherited at the inception of the administration.

According to the youths, while the reforms may be demanding, they are necessary for resetting the nation on the path of growth and long-term stability.

Ìgbìmọ̀ Ọdọ́ Yorùbá Afenifere strongly condemned the recent attacks on schools and places of worship across parts of the country, describing them as orchestrated and politically motivated acts aimed at instilling fear, undermining national unity, and sabotaging ongoing reforms.

The group called on security agencies to intensify efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice and safeguard lives and critical institutions.

In a decisive political position, the congress passed a vote of confidence on President Bola Tinubu, declaring him the preferred and collective choice of the Yoruba people ahead of the 2027 general election.

The youths noted that the direction of governance under President Tinubu aligns with the long-standing aspirations of the Yoruba nation for progressive leadership and inclusive development.

The congress paid special tribute to the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, describing him as a shining light of the Yoruba nation and the most active representative of Yoruba interests in the federal cabinet.

It noted that Tunji-Ojo’s radical commitment, innovation, and hands-on leadership in the Interior Ministry have significantly advanced the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu.

According to the congress, his reforms have restored public confidence and demonstrated that meaningful change in governance is achievable.

Participants further observed that the performance of the Interior Minister has reassured Nigerians of the feasibility of the Renewed Hope vision, citing improvements and reforms across agencies under the ministry since he assumed office.

The congress also paid glowing tributes and passed votes of confidence on the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Audi, for their leadership and dedication to national security.

In particular, the organization commended the NSCDC under Dr. Audi’s leadership for promoting discipline, transparency, and accountability, while calling for increased funding for the Corps.

The demand, it noted, is in line with President Tinubu’s recent directive for the Police to withdraw from non-conventional duties and the need for the NSCDC to effectively assume these expanded responsibilities.

The congress concluded by reaffirming the resolve of Yoruba youths to remain active stakeholders in nation-building, committed to peace, progressive governance, and the protection of democratic values in Nigeria.
