Bishop Ajose Joins LSACA/ NiFCOB-AIDS As Co-Chair
Bishop Dr Theophilus Taiwo Ajose has joined the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency, LSACA, NiFCOB-AIDS as Co-Chairman, representing the CAN block.
The Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA) has also commenced a structured mapping of Faith-Based Organisations (FBOs) involved in HIV-related services across the state, as part of efforts to strengthen coordination and enhance the effectiveness of the Lagos State HIV response.
The initiative was unveiled at the Entry, Stakeholder Alignment and Inauguration Meeting on FBOs Mapping for the Lagos State HIV Response, held today at the Conference Room of the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of LSACA, Dr. Folakemi Animashaun, who welcomed stakeholders, described the meeting as a landmark engagement, marking the first formal and structured interaction with faith-based groups on a statewide mapping exercise.
She noted that the initiative is aimed at understanding the role of faith communities in HIV prevention, treatment support, community outreach, and care across Lagos State.
The newly inaugurated members of the Lagos Chapter of NiFCOB-AIDS include the Chairman, Dr. Folakemi Animashaun; Co-Chairman (Muslim), Dr. Saheed Ahmad (Nigerian Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs) ; Co-Chairman (Christian), Bishop Ajose Theophilus (CAN); and Secretary, Rev. Dr. Kehinde Barbarian (NINERELA).
She explained that the inauguration officially recognizes NiFCOB-AIDS as the coordinating platform for faith-based engagement in the HIV response, in alignment with national efforts to promote interfaith collaboration in HIV prevention, treatment, care, support, and the reduction of stigma and discrimination.
In his remarks, the representative of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Mr. Collins Aneke, commended LSACA for pioneering a structured and inclusive approach to engaging Faith-Based Organisations in the HIV response.
