‘We Have Only One PDP, No Faction’ — Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday dismissed claims of division within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting that the party remains united ahead of its national convention.

Speaking with journalists after inspecting ongoing and completed infrastructure projects across Abuja, Wike said there is no faction within the PDP, noting that only a few individuals may have grievances.

“We have only one PDP, no faction,” he declared, adding that disagreements within the party do not amount to a split.

“I don’t know which camp you are talking about. There is only one PDP. Some individuals may not be happy, yes, but there is no faction,” he said, adding that reconciliation efforts could still continue alongside preparations for the party’s convention.

“That there is convention does not mean there will be no reconciliation. Everything has its own time,” he noted.

Earlier during the inspection, Wike said the FCT Administration remains committed to monitoring projects to ensure quality delivery and timely completion.

“In our usual programme, we make sure we go round to see what the contractors are doing and the quality of jobs they will hand over,” he said.

He disclosed that the bridge project near the Fire Service is nearing completion, with contractors assuring delivery within the next five months.

“From what we have seen, it is a very quality job. I commend the company,” he said.

The minister also confirmed that the N5 road project handled by Julius Berger has been fully completed and is scheduled for inauguration during President Bola Tinubu’s third anniversary.

At the Nigerian Law School, Wike expressed satisfaction with the construction of 10 staff bungalows, describing them as completed and well furnished.

He also inspected ongoing hostel projects, commending the contractor handling the female hostel for good progress while expressing concern over delays in the male hostel.

“I am quite impressed with the female hostel, but I am not impressed with the level of work on the male hostel. They were awarded at the same time,” he said, although contractors have promised delivery by October or November.

Wike described the intervention at the Law School as unprecedented, noting that it marks the first time government is providing such infrastructure for the institution.

“This is the first time a government is trying to provide basic infrastructure for the Nigerian Law School,” he stated.

Addressing concerns over funding and the pace of projects, the minister attributed the administration’s performance to prudent resource management and strong political will.

“It is not about the amount of money, but commitment. You can have all the money and still not achieve results if you are not committed,” he said.

According to him, the FCT Administration relies largely on internally generated revenue (IGR) and only awards contracts it has the capacity to fund.

“Projects we don’t have money for, we will not award them,” Wike stressed.

He credited the sustained momentum to the support of President Tinubu, noting that leadership backing has been critical to delivering infrastructure across the capital.

“The momentum we are getting is because we have a President who believes in providing infrastructure. That support makes the difference,” he added.

Wike assured residents that ongoing projects would be completed as scheduled, reiterating the administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and service delivery in the FCT.
