South West PDP Elects New Zonal Working Committee Members, Endorses Abuja Convention

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South West Zone has elected new Zonal Working Committee members to pilot the affairs of the party in the zone.

The Zonal Congress was held on Thursday, at the Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, electing new zonal working Committee officers in a show of unity and strength.

According to a release made available to journalists by Akinloye Oyeniyi, the Zonal Publicity Secretary, the elected officers included Engr Deji Doherty, Chairman; Oluwole Omotaje, Secretary; Obe Gbolaro, Treasurer; David Adedamola, Legal Adviser; Gbadamosi Babatunde, Financial Secretary; and Oyeniyi himself as the Zonal Publicity Secretary.

The congress, which was held in a cordial atmosphere, marked a significant milestone in the party’s journey towards the 2027 general elections.

The newly elected officers are expected to play a crucial role in mobilising support for the party in the South West region.

Others elected include Wale Ogunmodede, Adefemi Clement, Folake Marcus Oluwakayode, and Tolulope Awoniyi as youth leader.

The congress demonstrated the party’s commitment to democracy and unity, with stakeholders expressing optimism about its future and commending the national leadership of the party for the forthcoming national convention in Abuja starting on March 29 to 30.

“The Congress commended the National Leader, His Excellency Nyesom Wike, the national leadership and South West stakeholders of the party for holding forth this far and unanimously endorsed the forthcoming national convention at Abuja, to showcase PDP’s unity and strength as the largest opposition party”, Oyeniyi said.

The national convention is expected to be a crucial event in the party’s calendar, as it will set the tone for the party’s campaign for the 2027 general elections.

The PDP is expected to unveil its next leadership and other key office holders at the convention.

Oyeniyi further expressed confidence that the party will emerge stronger from the convention.

“We are united and determined to reclaim power across boards in 2027,” he said.

The PDP South West Zone has been a key player in the party’s national politics, and the successful congress has reinforced its position as a major force in the region.

The congress ended on a high note, with stakeholders expressing optimism about the party’s future. As the party prepares for the national convention, it is expected to put up a strong fight for power in 2027.
