Kebbi Attacks:Shanga LGA Receives N10 Million, Food Items From N-HYPPADEC

Following bandits attacked in seven villages of Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi in which 44 people lost their lives, the National Hydro-Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission, (N-HYPPADEC) has presented N10 million and assorted food items as relief materials to cushion the devastating effects on the affected communities.

The managing Director of the Commission, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq-Yelwa, announced the intervention on Monday during a condolence visit to Shanga LGA, where he commiserated with the State government and members of the communities over the incidents.
The dastard attacks, which occured in Kawara, Binuwa, Kalkami, Dabe, Kasoshi, Kafar Giwa, and Madubi, left several people dead and property valued at several millions of naira were destroyed.
The N-HYPPADEC boss described the assaults as catastrophic and condemnable, adding that that act were intended to disrupt peace and the livelihoods of the people of thos communities.
“We condemn this act of cowardice by criminal elements whose intention is to destabilise communities and deprive citizens of their means of livelihood.” He said.
Alhaji Yelwa said the Commission considered it imperative to offer immediate assistance to ease the burden on the affected communities.
“As part of our modest intervention, we are donating N10 million in cash, 100 bags of 50kg rice and 100 bags of assorted grains, in addition to other essential relief materials, to support displaced persons.” He stated.
He listed additional items to include cooking oil, seasoning, detergents, soap, blankets, and mats.
Responding on behalf of the Governor, Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Alhaji Garba Salisu-Takware, thanked N-HYPPADEC for what he called a timely intervention.
“We assure that the cash donation and relief materials will be distributed promptly to the affected victims.” He added.
