Ekiti South Senatorial District Elders Forum Passes ‘Vote Of No Confidence’ In Senator Yemi Adaramodu

The Ekiti South Senatorial District Elders Forum, a coalition of respected elders drawn from across all the local government areas of the Senatorial District, has passed a vote of no confidence in Senator Yemi Adaramodu over what the group described as poor representation, neglect of communities, and failure to fulfill electoral promises made to the people since assuming office as a Senator in 2023.

The Forum, whose membership cuts across different political parties and ideological interests, said it has completely lost confidence in the ability of Senator Yemi Adaramodu, popularly called ‘Agbaman’, to continue representing the Senatorial District beyond 2027.

Speaking on behalf of the group, the elders said leadership is beyond rhetoric and political slogans, stressing that true representation must reflect in visible development, accessibility, responsiveness, and commitment to the welfare of the people.

Chief Babajide Oluwanisola from Emure-Ekiti lamented that Senator Adaramodu promised during the electioneering campaign to assist the community in refurbishing its dilapidated primary healthcare centres, but since assuming office, the Senator has neither returned to the community nor taken any practical step towards fulfilling the promise.

According to him, the healthcare centres remain in terrible condition while residents continue to suffer due to inadequate medical facilities.

Similarly, Elder Idowu Olowokere from Ise-Orun disclosed that Senator Adaramodu equally promised to give the palace of their traditional ruler a befitting facelift while canvassing for votes ahead of the 2023 election.

He expressed disappointment that the promise has remained unfulfilled years after the Senator assumed office.

Elder Bayo Abegunde from Egbe-Ekiti also criticized Senator Adaramodu for what he termed the abandonment of the people of Egbe/Iro Ward since becoming Senator.

According to Elder Abegunde, there is virtually no visible government presence in Egbe-Ekiti as residents continue to provide basic infrastructure, security, and other essential needs for themselves without meaningful intervention from government representatives.

A prominent chief from Ikere-Ekiti also condemned what he described as poor and ineffective representation by Senator Yemi Adaramodu in the last three years, describing it as the worst representation witnessed in the Senatorial District since the return to democratic governance in 1999.

The elders maintained that the Senatorial District deserves far better representation considering the enormous human and natural potential across the zone.

The Forum however clarified that it did not endorse any particular individual for future elections because of the different political affiliations of its members.

Nevertheless, the elders urged the people of Ekiti South Senatorial District to reject Senator Yemi Adaramodu at the polls over what they described as abysmal performance and disconnect from the grassroots.

The Convener of the Forum, Elder Adebisi Ogunyemi from Agbado-Ekiti, attributed the underdevelopment of the Senatorial District to lack of responsible and responsive representation in government.

According to him, if elected representatives genuinely prioritize the welfare of the people, the district would have witnessed greater development than its current situation.

“As elders of the Senatorial District, we have a duty to speak truthfully and courageously about the state of our land. We cannot continue to fold our arms while our communities suffer neglect and underdevelopment. It is time to chart a new course for the progress and development of Ekiti South Senatorial District,” he said.

Elder Ogunyemi added that the Forum resolved to pass a vote of no confidence in Senator Yemi Adaramodu because, according to him, “we cannot continue to recycle failure and expect progress.”

The Forum called on the people of Ekiti South Senatorial District to place competence, accountability, and genuine service above partisan considerations in future political decisions.
