Ogun APC House Of Reps Primaries Peaceful, Record Massive Turnout

The All Progressives Congress in Ogun State on Saturday conducted its House of Representatives primaries across the 20 local government areas of the state in a largely peaceful, transparent and well-organised exercise that drew commendations from party leaders, stakeholders and government officials.

Across wards monitored by party officials and observers, the direct primary recorded impressive voter turnout, orderly accreditation and voting processes, with returning officers and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission present at various centres.

In Sagamu Local Government, Ward 3, the Chairman of the Articulate Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN), Taofeek Sokoya, confirmed that Funmi Afuwape emerged victorious for the Remo Federal Constituency ticket.

“The exercise was peaceful and well-organised. Hon. Funmi Afuwape won clearly, and we believe she will represent us well,” Sokoya said.

The primaries also went smoothly in Opeji Ward, Odeda Local Government, under the Abeokuta North/Obafemi-Owode Federal Constituency, where Shuaib Afolabi Salisu cast his vote.

At Oba Ward 07 in Obafemi-Owode Local Government and across Abeokuta South, the exercise was similarly described as hitch-free.

The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Iziaq Kunle Salako, participated in the primary at Ayetoro 2 Ward 3, Yewa North Local Government.

Meanwhile, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, who had earlier been endorsed by party leaders as the APC consensus candidate for Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency, was affirmed by party members through a unanimous voice vote without any dissent.

There was also a massive turnout at Ward 16 in Abeokuta North Local Government, where a large number of party members thronged the voting centre. At Imososi Methodist School, Ago-Iwoye, in Ijebu North Local Government, voters described the atmosphere as peaceful and hopeful.

In Ifo Local Government, Adijat Motunrayo Adeleye was declared winner of the Okearo/Ibaragun/Robinyan Ward 7 APC primary, clinching the party’s ticket for the Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency.

The APC consensus governorship candidate in Ogun State, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, voted at Ilaro Ward 1 in Yewa South Local Government, where Oluwatoyin Taiwo was overwhelmingly elected as the party’s candidate for Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency.

“I participated in the APC House of Representatives Direct Primary. We overwhelmingly elected Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo. APC is setting the pace for peaceful internal democracy,” Adeola said.

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, commended members and stakeholders of the APC for their loyalty, discipline and commitment throughout the exercise.

“The successful conduct of the House of Representatives primary election marks the beginning of a series of important party exercises ahead of subsequent primaries for the Senate, House of Assembly, governorship and presidential positions,” the governor stated.

He also appreciated returning officers, electoral officials, INEC personnel and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful, transparent, orderly and inclusive process across the state.

Governor Abiodun described the emergence of Funmi Afuwape as a reflection of the confidence reposed in her leadership ability, experience and commitment to service, expressing confidence that she would provide quality representation for the people of Remo Federal Constituency.

The governor reaffirmed the commitment of the APC in Ogun State to internal democracy, peaceful engagement and the continued pursuit of progressive ideals aimed at promoting unity, development and good governance.
