May Ubeku Honoured At NWAAC 2026 For Transforming Community Healthcare In Lagos

For her sustained efforts in delivering healthcare to underserved communities across Lagos, May Ubeku, Founder of Citizens Health Initiative Nigeria, was presented with special recognition at the 2026 Nigerian Women Achievers Awards and Conference (NWAAC).

Citizens Health Initiative Nigeria was equally honoured for its community-based healthcare model, with particular recognition of its outreach to vulnerable populations in Makoko and among displaced individuals in Surulere, Lagos.

Held in April at the Grand Ballroom of Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, under the theme “Women: Listen, Act and Transform” and aligned with this year’s International Women’s Day call to “Give to Gain”, NWAAC 2026 marked a historic milestone by integrating its awards ceremony with a large-scale medical outreach programme for the first time.

Citizens Health Initiative Nigeria served as a key health partner, delivering free cervical cancer screenings, Hepatitis B testing, health consultations, and wellness education to attendees.

The recognition affirms the organisation’s growing impact in reaching communities that formal health systems have largely failed to serve, through preventive care and health education programmes across Lagos and beyond.
