Thugs Disrupt Actors Guild Of Nigeria Election
The election of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Bayelsa State Chapter, held on Thursday, May 27, was reportedly disrupted by suspected thugs, throwing the process into confusion and tension.
According to an eyewitness at the venue, the electoral process had earlier commenced peacefully and was progressing smoothly before the sudden invasion of suspected thugs allegedly linked to supporters of the outgoing Chairman of the Bayelsa State Chapter, Arthy Nestow, who is seeking a second term in office.
The eyewitness disclosed that upon arrival, the thugs aggressively demanded, “Where is he? Where is he?” and initially accosted Agility Onwurah, Chairman of the National Task Force and representative of the national body, mistakenly believing he was their target.
However, the source alleged that the outgoing chairman and one of her associates quickly informed the thugs that Agility Onwurah was not the person they were looking for, before allegedly pointing them toward the South-South Vice President of the Guild, Dr. Bartholomew Aguugo.
The thugs reportedly descended on Dr. Aguugo, physically assaulting him and inflicting injuries in the process, causing panic among members and officials present at the venue.
Dr. Bartholomew Aguugo, Vice President, South-South Zone of the AGN, is currently receiving treatment at an unknown hospital following injuries sustained during the attack.
As of the time of filing this report, tension remains high surrounding the disrupted election and whereabouts of Dr Aguugo whose phones were taken away by the thugs while members continue to call for calm and a thorough investigation into the incident.
