“German Wines Are Excellent “,Envoy Highlights Cultural, Commercial Exchanges With Nigeria Through Wine Promotion

By BENJAMIN OMOIKE LAGOS, Nigeria – The German Ambassador to Nigeria, Annett Günther, has emphasised the importance of strengthening cultural and commercial relations between Germany and Nigeria through increased awareness and appreciation of German wines.

Günther made the remarks during an exclusive Wine Tasting and Information Event titled “German Wines”, held at the Civic Centre, Lagos.

The event was organised by the Federal Ministry for Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity of the Federal Republic of Germany in collaboration with the German Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria.

Speaking at the event, the ambassador noted that German wines enjoy a strong international reputation and can serve as an additional avenue for enhancing people-to-people connections and business partnerships between both countries.

“German wines are excellent and have a good reputation. German-Nigerian relations are already very close in many ways. We would like to add this extra dimension by introducing German wines to the Nigerian public,” Günther said.

She explained that the event brought together German wine producers and distributors with key stakeholders in Nigeria’s wine industry to facilitate direct engagement and explore business opportunities.

The gathering attracted leading Nigerian wine merchants, importers, distributors, and wine experts, providing participants with an immersive introduction to the diversity, quality, and heritage of German wines.

According to the ambassador, the initiative was designed not only to deepen understanding of Germany’s wine culture but also to strengthen commercial ties between Germany and Nigeria’s growing wine market.

Through guided tasting sessions and expert-led presentations, participants gained insights into Germany’s renowned wine-producing regions, centuries-old winemaking traditions, and the distinctive characteristics that have earned German wines global recognition.

The event also highlighted opportunities for increased trade, investment, and market access for German wineries seeking to expand their footprint in Nigeria, while fostering stronger collaboration between stakeholders in both countries’ wine industries.
