Who Dunnit? Police Intensify Probe On Delivery Of Parcel Ammunition At First Bank MD’s Residence
The Lagos State Police Command has intensified probe into the delivery of a suspicious parcel containing live ammunition to the residence of FirstBank Nigeria’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Olusegun Alebiosu.
Recall that a co-founder of the Newswatch Magazine, Dele Giwa was bombed to death through parcel bomb on October 19, 1986. And since then the Federal Government has been unable to unravel the mystery surrounding Giwa’s death.
Tijani Fatai, Lagos State Commissioner of Police disclosed on Tuesday during a press briefing, that the incident was reported on May 7, 2026, after a security guard at the bank executive’s residence received the package.
According to him, the parcel was later opened and discovered to contain two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, describing the development as a serious and highly suspicious matter.
“Presently, I can confirm to you that the matter is still under investigation. It is a serious case, and the investigation needs to be thorough,” the commissioner said.
Fatai explained that no suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident, although Alebiosu had provided the names of individuals he suspected could be linked to the delivery.
“Even though the MD has mentioned some people who he suspected of being the brains behind it, that remains his suspicion. We are still working on it,” he added.
The police commissioner said investigations were ongoing to identify those behind the act and uncover the motive behind the delivery of the ammunition parcel.
