Police Launch Manhunt For Killers Of Lagos NURTW Leader, Toba Ajiboye
Police have started a manhunt for the individuals who killed Toba Ajiboye, the secretary of the Lagos NURTW.
The Lagos Police Command has initiated a thorough search for unidentified gunmen who fatally shot Toba Ajiboye, the Organising Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), also known as Toba Ijaya, on Ikorodu road in Lagos.

Reports indicate that medical professionals at St. Nichola Hospital in Lagos Island Local Government declared the NURTW official dead after he was rushed there following the shooting.
On Tuesday, chaos erupted near St. Nichola Hospital as police clashed with passionate supporters of the victim, who blocked security forces from entering the hospital to retrieve Ajiboye’s body after he was confirmed dead.
Abimbola Adebisi, the spokesperson for the state Police Command, confirmed that law enforcement has been stationed at key locations to prevent any disturbances throughout the state.
Adebisi stated, “Investigations are underway to apprehend the culprits, and the Command has also deployed personnel to strategic areas to maintain peace and order.”
The attack occurred as Ajiboye was heading home from his childhood neighborhood in Fadeyi.
The assailants reportedly ambushed his vehicle on Ikorodu road, shooting at him through his white car, which bore multiple bullet holes in the windscreen and other areas.
Initial reports suggested that Ajiboye and the other passengers in the vehicle survived the attack with gunshot wounds.
However, later updates indicated that the union official succumbed to his injuries.
In response to the tragedy, Mustapha Adekunle, the Lagos NURTW Chairman, known as Sego, expressed his sorrow over Ajiboye’s death, calling him a loyal companion and trusted friend.
In a heartfelt tribute on social media, Adekunle shared his devastation over the loss, emphasizing that Ajiboye’s dedication and commitment to the union and their political framework would be sorely missed.
“The news of Comrade Toba Ajiboye’s sudden passing has left me profoundly saddened and heartbroken. It is hard to accept the loss of such a loyal, reliable, and dedicated ally,” he remarked.
The NURTW chairman characterized the late union leader as “more than just an ally,” stating that he was a cornerstone of TeamSego and SegoNation.
“Comrade Toba Ajiboye, the Organising Secretary of the NURTW Lagos State Council, was more than an ally; he was a trusted friend, a man of unwavering loyalty and commitment, and a true pillar of TeamSego and SegoNation. His friendship, steadfast support, and selfless dedication to the union over the years will always be remembered,” Sego expressed.
