LAGOS, NIGERIA — July 20, 2026— The Standing Committee of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has finalized arrangements to host the 4th Lateef Jakande Memorial Lecture on Thursday, July 23, 2026.

This year’s lecture is themed: “The Media, INEC, Voters and Path to Credible Elections.”

The event will be held under the distinguished chairmanship of the former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will attend as the Special Guest of Honour. Renowned scholar and Professor of Political Science at the Lagos State University (LASU), Sylvester Odion Akhaine, will deliver the keynote lecture.

The annual lecture series was instituted four years ago by the NGE to honour the enduring legacy of the late Alhaji Lateef Jakande. Jakande, a pioneering journalist and former President of the NGE, served as the first civilian Governor of Lagos State from October 1, 1979, to December 31, 1983.

This year’s discourse aims to critically analyze democratic stakeholders and current electoral processes. The gathering is expected to draw a diverse audience of political leaders, academics, business executives, civil society groups, media practitioners, and other professionals.

Members of the press are officially invited to cover the event.
